FAQs

What is the difference between ceremonial cacao and supermarket cacao?

Ceremonial grade cacao and cacao found in supermarkets vary in terms of quality, processing, and intended use. Ceremonial cacao is of higher quality, sourced from specific regions such as Peru with careful attention to cultivation practices. It undergoes minimal processing to preserve its natural properties and is traditionally used in ceremonies for its potential spiritual and mood-enhancing effects.

Supermarket cacao, on the other hand, may undergo extensive processing, including roasting and the addition of sugars or other ingredients. It is typically mass-produced and may not prioritise the ethical and sustainable sourcing practices associated with ceremonial cacao. The intended use of supermarket cacao is usually for culinary purposes rather than ceremonial or spiritual practices.

How is ceremonial grade cacao different from regular hot chocolate?

Ceremonial grade cacao differs from regular hot chocolate in terms of its purity and processing. Ceremonial cacao is minimally processed, free from additives, and often consumed in its raw form. Regular hot chocolate, on the other hand, undergoes extensive processing, including roasting, refining, and the addition of sugars and other ingredients.
